One of the greatest gifts I’ve been given is the opportunity to work with women.
I am a mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife, a friend, a counselor, a teacher, and a woman.
I have cried myself to sleep, and I have laughed until tears rolled down my cheeks. I have kept going when I didn’t think I could, and I’ve fallen apart.
I’ve been broken and I’ve been lifted up. I’ve been hurt and endured trauma, and I’ve been blessed.
I’ve felt inadequate, and I’ve felt strong. I’ve fought hard and done a lot of my own “work” therapeutically, and I also find it’s a daily practice, a constant battle to stay connected to self and true to oneself – to one’s own worth and to courageously practice authenticity.
Break Free of the Conflict
I believe that a great deal of emotional pain people experience stems from that battle, that conflict between self and other. Women, especially, are often placed, find themselves, or put themselves in that position where they have to choose between being true to themselves and being accepted by others.
This is an internal, very often unconscious battle. It starts early. Girls are socialized to be caretakers and to be pleasers. Being “nice” comes at a price when a girl’s own voice, frustration, and valid emotion is squelched in order to maintain order.
Those girls grow into women who confuse self-care with selfishness, and assertiveness with being mean.
As a woman, having the privilege of working with, and connecting to other women who are trying to find their way in this world, is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do professionally.
Find Your Voice, Speak Your Truth, and Come into Your Own
Because of my own life experiences, I am passionate about being a part of any woman’s journey towards self-acceptance and empowerment. I enjoy helping someone reach that point when she can say with confidence, “I am enough.” That is a gift!
It’s the relationship that heals, and in the course of our work together it would be an honor to walk with you. I’ll be a cheerleader, a resource, a guide, a source of strength and support, a holder of hope, and above all else, one who believes in you.
If you’re struggling to find balance in your life, if you feel inadequate, crying yourself to sleep, waging war with yourself or your body, struggling with food or eating disordered behaviors, poor body image, parenting, feeling angry or numb, or just searching for something but you’re not even sure what…
Call me.
“It took me quite a long time to develop a voice, and now that I have it, I am not going to be silent.”
